WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Idaho v. United States and Moyle v. United States.
“That the Supreme Court has cleared the way for doctors in Idaho to perform emergency abortions when a woman’s life is in danger is a relief, but no victory. No one should ever be put in that position. Legally mandated delays and denials of standard reproductive health care have repercussions that put lives at risk. It should not be happening in 2024 in the United States of America. But since the Dobbs decision that overturned nearly 50 years of reproductive freedom, this is the reality for women across the country. We must restore the nationwide protections of Roe v. Wade so that individuals and their health care providers can make health care decisions based on their individual situations. Blanket bans are dangerous.”
