WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Jamie Raskin, David Trone and Glenn Ivey (all D-Md.) today announced $18,326,000 in funding to upgrade essential wastewater and stormwater systems to protect public health and waterways.

This funding, allocated through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), will be used to upgrade and modernize wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in localities throughout Maryland. This announcement builds on the second wave of $2.4 billion announced for clean water infrastructure upgrades nationwide through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in February. Over $3.2 billion will be provided to the CWSRF when combined with Fiscal Year 2023 funding available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“Updating our water infrastructure is crucial to providing communities with the tools they need to manage their critical infrastructure,” said the lawmakers. “This funding will not only ensure that Marylanders have clean water for decades to come, but it also protects public health and our environment by investing in climate-resilient sewer and stormwater systems that reduce runoff and improve water quality.”

The CWSRF has been the foundation of water infrastructure investments for more than 30 years, providing low-cost financing for local projects across America. Under the Clean Water programs, EPA provides funding to all 50 states and Puerto Rico to capitalize on SRF loan programs.
