Cardin Statement on Yom HaShoah 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Special Representative on Anti-Semitism, Racism and Intolerance, released the following statement Monday in observance of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“Last night and today, millions of people around the world will come together to not only recall the horrors of the Holocaust, but to ensure that the words ‘Never Again’ mean something. The genocide of Jews by Hitler’s murder machine must always remain in the forefront of collective humanity’s mind and heart. More than 70 years ago, we saw what the worst impulses of humankind could unleash upon the innocent. We remember the martyrs and honor the heroes of the resistance. As a Jew, an elected official, and a leader sworn to stamp out anti-Semitism and hatred the world over, I offer my condolences to the innocent lives lost in the Holocaust, honor the survivors, and recommit myself, in words and deeds, to speaking out against ongoing and future atrocities and to holding perpetrators accountable.”
