BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement on the discovery of explosive devices in packages addressed to public officials, media and others.

“One of the strengths of America is the rule of law and our ability to non-violently engage in debate and political discourse. Terrorizing public figures, the public or anyone in this country through such violent means is unacceptable under any circumstance. I thank the law enforcement agencies that are working to keep everyone safe and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice. I am grateful that these devices were found before causing harm. I would urge anyone who thinks violence is a means to an end, to think again. We must return to a more civil, less violent means of communicating with each other. Violent threats and violent actions cannot be tolerated.”
