WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement on the announcement that Congressman John Sarbanes (MD.-03) would not seek re-election in 2024. Prior to serving in the Senate, Cardin represented Maryland’s 3rd congressional district for 20 years.

“Marylanders, I was sorry to hear that John Sarbanes has decided that he is not going to seek re-election. What an incredible career he has had representing the people of Maryland. He stands for transparency and honesty in elections and the way our system of government operates. What he has done on environmental education – Leave No Child Inside. In so many areas, he has added to the quality of life for Marylanders and the integrity of our political system.
