CARDIN NAMED TO KEY FINANCE SUBCOMMITTEES
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), recently appointed to the Senate Finance Committee for the 112 th Congress, has been named to key subcommittees that will utilize his experience in healthcare and retirement security issues while helping to boost our economy and create jobs for Marylanders during these challenging economic times. Senator Cardin has been named to the Subcommittee on Health Care, Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight, and the Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy.

“Creating jobs and protecting Americans’ savings are essential during these difficult times for our economy. I appreciate the opportunity to help shape policy and initiatives that will make a positive difference for individuals and our nation’s fiscal health. My goal is to protect the important health care and retirement benefits that have given millions of Americans peace of mind and financial stability, while working with my colleagues to enact new programs that will promote retirement security, job security and financial security and get our nation back on a path to balance our budget,” said Senator Cardin.

“Senator Cardin is a welcome addition to our Health Care, Taxation and IRS Oversight and Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy subcommittees,” said Senator Baucus, Finance Committee Chairman.  “We welcome his experience and his energy to these subcommittees as we continue our work to protect Social Security, create jobs, increase economic competitiveness and ensure Americans continue to receive the benefits and cost-savings of our new health care law.  On tax issues, for example, I am eager to work with Senator Cardin on ways the tax code can promote retirement security.  The Finance Committee is responsible for some of the most challenging issues facing our country and we’re glad to have Senator Cardin on board these three critical subcommittees to help us confront these challenges.”
