WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate lead on legislation to create the National Memorial to Fallen Journalists, released the following statement:
“I was disturbed to learn of the killing of Palestinian-American Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the West Bank earlier today. Abu Akleh’s death is an attack on a journalist who was wearing her press gear. No journalist should be killed while simply doing their job. I strongly condemn her death and call for an independent and thorough investigation into the incident.”
