Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senator Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in response to the numerous, ongoing rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel:

“I strongly support Israel’s right to defend its citizens against threats to its security and existence. The recent military action in Gaza is a direct response to numerous and ongoing rocket attacks from militants in the Hamas-controlled Gaza, which have injured dozens of Israeli citizens. I am deeply saddened by the continued violence and loss of innocent lives.

“The Israelis and the Palestinians must find a way to advance a stable and lasting peace between their peoples through direct negotiations. The United States will continue to do all that is within our power to promote peace in the region and resolve the differences that have poisoned relations between Israelis and Palestinians for far too many generations.”
