WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) have announced $26,000 in federal funding for water infrastructure planning in Federalsburg, Md. Two $13,000 grants – both of which come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program – will fund the preliminary engineering and environmental impact reports for two projects: the replacement of the city’s aging water main, and the replacement of existing water meter infrastructure. The reports will detail the projects’ impact, allowing Federalsburg officials to determine the best possible path forward for conducting these much-needed upgrades.
“These funds are a federal investment in Federalsburg residents’ access to clean, healthy water,” said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Committee on Environment and Public Works. “Upgrading our aging water infrastructure and supporting our rural communities’ efforts to maintain clean water systems is a top priority, as both play a huge role in protecting public health. I’ll keep fighting to ensure the federal government remains an active partner in these efforts and that every corner of our state gets the clean water resources it needs.”
