WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement on the passing of former Representative John Dingell, Jr.
“John Dingell set the all-time bar for legislators. He served his constituents and his country with honor. Through his tenacity and willingness to comprise for the good of good policy, he made a lasting, positive difference in the lives of millions. John got things done like no one else, and not only because he outlasted nearly everyone he served with. Helping people came first. He stood up for the important causes he believed in. He also understood the power of working across the aisle for the good of our country and the people of Michigan’s 12th District.
“It was an honor to serve with John in the House of Representatives. We shared a passion for ensuring that quality health coverage and civil rights should be universal and not limited to a privileged few. My heartfelt condolences go out to Debbie and all those who were touched by the strong wit and passion of John David Dingell, Jr. Rest in peace, Mr. Chairman.”
