Maryland Delegation Members Announce Nearly $3.5 Million for Public Transit in Harford County

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Andy Harris and Dutch Ruppersberger (all Md.) announced the award of $3,437,370 for the Maryland Department of Transportation on behalf of Harford County. Funds were awarded through the Department of Transportation (DOT) and will allow Harford County to replace diesel buses with compressed natural gas (CNG) buses – improving service reliability and helping to maintain an updated bus fleet.

“Many of Maryland’s workers rely on safe, dependable public transit, including those working on the front lines during this pandemic. This award will allow Harford County to upgrade their bus fleet with cleaner, more reliable vehicles so they can better serve the community. We will continue working to expand and modernize transit throughout Maryland,” the lawmakers said.

Per DOT, the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities.
