Cardin Marks Second Anniversary of Dobbs Decision

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs Decision.

“On this, the two-year anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson — one of the worst decisions in the history of the United States Supreme Court — we were proud to welcome Vice President Kamala Harris to the University of Maryland.

“While the previous president takes pride in being responsible for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and revoking nearly 50 years of privacy and reproductive rights, the Biden-Harris administration trusts Americans to make health care decisions regarding their own bodies.

“The Supreme Court of the United States is supposed to be the last line of defense, protecting the rights of Americans and guaranteeing equal justice under the law for all. The highest court of the land is supposed to defend the Constitution and should never be the one deliberately taking away the rights of millions of people. Yet, a majority of the justices on the Supreme Court have been doing just that. They are taking us backwards. In the two years since the Dobbs decision, at least 20 states have passed total or near-total bans on reproductive freedoms. The landscape has been totally transformed.

“We must keep fighting until Roe v. Wade is restored as the law nationwide. The stakes are too high and the risks too great.”
