WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, D-MD, announced today that 19 Baltimore Jewish organizations will receive a total of $903,290 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for FY 2007 under the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
  The grants are awarded to non-profit organizations considered at high risk of an international terrorist attack in an urban areas classified as high risk

“This DHS grant program strives to provide resources to organizations that could be targets of terrorism.
  Baltimore has been classified as a high-risk urban area and these Jewish organizations need the support and resources of the Department of Homeland Security to ensure their security and the security of their members,” said Senator Cardin.

DHS announced a total of $24 million in grants to 24 states for FY 2007.
  Each state will provide sub-awards directly to the individual nonprofit organizations. In FY 2005, Baltimore received $132,000 under the UASI Nonprofit grant program.
