SENATOR CARDIN APPLAUDS EPA’S DECISION THAT GREENHOUSE GASES POSE SERIOUS PUBLIC HEALTH RISK

WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s finding that greenhouse gas emissions pose a danger to public health:

“Today’s finding by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that greenhouse gas emissions are a threat to human health is welcome news.
It demonstrates that good science and common sense have returned to the Agency. The EPA’s second finding that greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles contribute to this danger to the public health is another victory for science and common sense.

“I applaud the actions of the Obama Administration, and I fully support the action that EPA has taken.
Global warming is a major threat to our nation and the world and we need bold, decisive and immediate action.
EPA’s announcement today represents a substantial first step.”
