HAVRE DE GRACE, MD —
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today held a press conference on the banks of Deer Creek in Susquehanna State Park to present a $400,000 ceremonial check in federal funding to help restore and conserve the Deer Creek watershed.
 

The funding will allow for implementation of the Watershed Restoration Action Strategy (WRAS), a strategy for Deer Creek that will protect water quality, conserve fish and wildlife habitats and restore areas found to be impaired.
  Deer Creek is the largest watershed in Harford County, covering 38 percent of the county’s land area.

“The health of the Deer Creek watershed has a direct effect on the Chesapeake Bay and I am committed to ensuring that Harford County has the resources it needs to implement the Watershed Restoration Action Strategy,”
said Senator Cardin, chairman of the Water & Wildlife Subcommittee of the Environment and Public Works Committee. “I commend the Harford County, the Deer Park Conservation and Restoration Watershed and other stakeholders for the work they have done to develop and implement a strategy that will restore and preserve this important watershed.”

The final WRAS strategy was completed in 2007, and Harford County is currently implementing the recommendations within the report.
  The $400,000 in new funding will be used to promote conservation efforts and complete stream bank restoration to the Deer Creek watershed.
