Senators Benjamin L. Cardin
and
Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded
an additional $384,000 to Garrett County, to complete the construction of the Cherry Glade Access Road. The new road will provide improved access to a new commercial site, easing congestion and creating new jobs.

“Transportation infrastructure is critical to future economic growth of a region,” said
Senator Cardin. “This grant will allow Garrett County to complete the Cherry Glade access road so that the new commercial development will be fully operational, providing jobs for area residents.”

 “I'm so proud that these funds will help the region attract new businesses, new jobs and new economic development to Oakland,”
Senator Mikulski said. “I will continue to fight for federal grants like these that invest in Maryland communities and future economic opportunities.”

The Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) will administer the project and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will serve as the basic federal agency. In addition to ARC funds, Garrett County will provide $96,000 towards the $480,000 project.

The ARC is a federal-state partnership that works with the people of Appalachia to create opportunities for self-sustaining economic development and improved quality of life.
