WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) today announced that Dorchester County has received a $92,852 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) for Cambridge-Dorchester Airport. The grant will be used to update the Airport’s master plan, helping to identify future needs and ensure the Airport is in compliance with environmental standards and FAA safety guidelines.

“This airport provides an important business and commercial link for the residents on the Eastern Shore and it’s important that its future needs are evaluated and updated,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee.  “This funding that will help ensure safe and efficient service for the traveling public.”

“Our regional airports play a key role in maintaining Maryland’s robust economy,” Senator Mikulski said. “These federal dollars will help the Cambridge-Dorchester Airport operate safely and efficiently while keeping Marylanders on the go.”

This federal grant will be used to combat the detrimental effects of storm water runoff from the airport. The grant also will cover the costs associated with removing obstructions that could impede the extension of a runway.  Finally, the grant will allow for the airport to begin planning future needs by updating its master plan. Cambridge Dorchester Airport is a county-owned, public-use airport located three nautical miles southeast of the central business district of Cambridge, Maryland.
