WASHINGTON — Just hours before the Department of Homeland Security will run out of funds for the current fiscal year, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) called on the Speaker to step up and finally bring a clean funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to the House floor for a vote. The Senate passed a bill by a strong bipartisan vote of 68 to 31 earlier today.
“Speaker Boehner should act quickly tonight to pass a clean DHS funding bill that will keep hardworking federal workers on the job protecting our nation and the American people from harm. Let’s stop the political games and have a vote before families are put in jeopardy. This latest chapter of political theater never needed to happen. I urge the Speaker to allow bipartisan passage of a clean funding bill for DHS tonight before the agency needs to shutdown.”
