Cardin Statement on Protests in Baltimore
"I ask for those involved to not work against our shared goal and distract from seeking justice for Freddie Gray."

Baltimore, Md. – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement regarding the situation in Baltimore after Freddie Gray protests have turned violent.

“Baltimore is my home. The death of Freddie Gray is a national tragedy that deserves a national conversation. I am fully committed to seeing justice for Freddie Gray but senseless violence will bring us no closer to that goal. As our community watches what was a meaningful and justified protest descend into an ugly scene we have seen all too often across the nation, I make an earnest appeal for peace in Baltimore. As a United States Senator and Baltimorean, I ask for those involved to not work against our shared goal and distract from seeking justice for Freddie Gray.”
