Cardin Welcomes New Maryland Schools Superintendent

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) today welcomed the announcement that the Maryland State Board of Education unanimously voted to approve Dr. Karen B. Salmon, the Interim Deputy State Superintendent for School Effectiveness & Chief Performance Officer, as the next Superintendent of Maryland Schools.

“Dr. Salmon is Marylander with a long track record of serving Maryland students. Dr. Salmon spent over 30 years on the Eastern Shore working with students, parents, administrators and communities to ensure every child could reap the benefits of a quality public education. Her record of developing and producing quality school systems in Talbot County, Md. and Bay Shore Union Free School District in Bay Shore, N.Y., will serve her well as she steps into her new role. I look forward to working with Dr. Salmon to ensure that the federal government remains a committed partner in educating the future generations of Marylanders.”
