Cardin, Van Hollen Announce $12,490 for Antietam National Battlefield

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) today announced that the National Park Service has awarded a $6,000 grant for Antietam National Battlefield. The grant will be matched by $6,490 in partner funding from the Save Historic Antietam Foundation for a project total of $12,490.

“This federal investment in Antietam National Battlefield will help preserve one of Maryland’s most important historical landmarks so that future generations may go and learn about a critical turning point in our nation’s Civil War firsthand,” said Senator Cardin.

“Antietam National Battlefield is part of Maryland’s rich network of historical sites that draw tourism and provide educational opportunities for visitors,” said Senator Van Hollen. “This grant will help preserve the battlefield’s history for future generations.”

Funding will be used for maintenance on this historic Piper farm. The grant is available through the Centennial Challenge program, which provides funding and engages park partners to improve trails, restore buildings, and increase visitor access to parks.
