AUGUST RECESS
The Senate has been in recess the last three weeks of August and I have used the time to travel across Maryland to meet with constituents to talk about health care reform and listen to the concerns and questions of constituents. Following up on my July town hall at Prince George's College, I held a town hall meeting on health care at Towson University on August 10, a roundtable meeting with members of Upper Chesapeake Health in Bel Air on August 11, another town hall at Hagerstown Community College on August 12, and a Health Care Forum in conjunction with Salisbury University and Grayshores on August 13.
These meetings all provided opportunities for constituents to ask me questions in a variety of formats and voice their concerns on this critical issue. These events also offered me the opportunity to explain why health care reform is so essential, answer questions and to provide accurate information on what is and is not being considered by the Congress. I am more convinced than ever that inaction is the only thing our health care system cannot afford. Insurance companies can no longer be permitted to discriminate on the basis of pre-existing conditions, cancel coverage as policy owners get sick, or place financial caps on benefits. All Americans must have access to quality, affordable health coverage that will help bring down the cost for each of us.
Stay up-to-date on health care reform proposals working through the Senate and the House at my website, cardin.senate.gov. More information will be posted as the debate advances this fall.
