Senators Cardin and Mikulski and Gov. O'Malley hold a press conference to announce efforts to seek a disaster declaration from the Department of Commerce for the Chesapeake Bay blue crab. A disaster declaration will make Maryland watermen eligible for emergency disaster funds to ease economic burdens due to the decline of the crabbing industry.

On Red Dress Sunday, Senator Cardin tells congregants of the Douglas Memorial Community Church that heart disease is one of the leading killers of African-American women. He urged African-American women, and all women, to seek medical advice and to pay attention to their health care needs.

To celebrate Teach for America Week, Senator Cardin taught a 10th grade U.S. government class at the Institute of Business and Entrepreneurship in the Walbrook neighborhood of Baltimore City. Senator Cardin believes that all Americans should have access to a first-class education.
