Originally founded in 1649 under the name of Providence, Annapolis was later renamed in honor of Princess Anne. Annapolis was briefly the capitol of the United States during 1783 to 1784, and is the home of both the United States Naval Academy and the Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol building in continuous use in the country. | ||
