Senator Cardin speaks on the urgent need for health care reform in America.
American health care is on an unsustainable course. While we have the best trained doctors, the most high-tech hospitals and the most advanced medical research in the world, the rapidly increasing costs of our health care system can no longer be ignored. High costs are preventing millions of Americans from getting the medical treatment they need, weighing down our economy and causing government deficits to soar.
Left unaddressed, medical costs will only increase in the future, exacerbating America's health problems and eating up an increasing amount of family budgets. The situation is not insoluable, however, and with a prudent reform effort this generation of Americans can fix our health care system, and leave our country healthier and more economically sound for generations to come
This website will explain why we need health care reform, and what steps I believe we should take. I also answer the questions I most often hear from constituents about the health reform effort, and address some of the persistant rumors which are clouding efforts for an honest and open debate. I provide links to the sources of all the statistical information I provide, useful both for confirming my statements and providing further reading.
Health care reform is serious task, and a healthy public debate will be vital to our success. The purpose of this site is to aid in that debate by providing the facts and arguments that explain my position. I hope you find it useful.
